AANHPI Heritage Month Spotlight: Amanda Palma

This Asian American Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, we are pleased to highlight Amanda Palma, a legal practice assistant in our Family Law & Private Clients Group in Washington, D.C. Amanda, who was born in Hawaii, shares some of her family traditions and how her heritage shaped her.
Amanda shares that growing up in the beautiful State of Hawaii, on the island of Oahu, was a special privilege. “Surfing has been in families for generations, acting as a stress reliever, and the ocean plays a major role in our heritage. Hula dancing is another important tradition for families and it was important when I was growing up. My grandmother had the privilege of teaching the beauty of the hula to students and family members. We also enjoyed traditional Hawaiian foods during family picnics and luaus. These special gatherings are important in keeping traditions with family and friends.
“Knowing my family heritage, combined with displaying the Aloha spirit to the world and being proud of our cultural traditions, contributes to the person I am today.”
