Our History
Founded in 1932 by Baltimore lawyers Clarence Miles and Seymour O’Brien who later merged with a firm founded by Enos Stockbridge, creating the modern-day Miles & Stockbridge, the firm has played a significant role in shaping businesses and communities along the East Coast.
An Information Security Leader
Our clients—and all the confidences they entrust to us—are our business. As such, our effort to maintain data security and privacy is a cornerstone of our matter management practices, as evidenced by the firm’s certification and registration under the rigorous International Organization for Standardization ISO/IEC 27001: 2022 standard, which specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving documented information security management systems.
As an early adopter of the program, Miles & Stockbridge completed the rigorous one-year process and achieved its certification and registration under ISO 27001: 2013 in 2017. However, that was only the beginning, as the process relies on extensive and continuous training, accountability, auditing, and improvement. The firm has now undergone five audits of its information security systems. In 2025, the firm’s ISO/IEC 27001: 2022 certification was again renewed, maintaining our position as a leader in the legal profession.
The ISO 27001:2022 certification is applicable to our offices in Baltimore, Maryland; Washington, DC; and Tysons Corner, VA.
