Diversity
A Culture of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
A steadfast commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion is a core value of Miles & Stockbridge. The firm is committed to building a workplace and community rooted in respect, equal opportunity, and inclusive collaboration—reflected in how we operate internally, serve our clients, engage in pro bono work, and interact with one another. Diverse viewpoints informed by significantly different perspectives are essential to solving our clients’ legal challenges in today’s ever-changing business environment and lead to positive results, benefiting both the communities in which we do business and our firm. Our efforts focus on maintaining an inclusive community and ensuring fair and equitable treatment for all.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee
The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee includes Scott Wilson, principal and firm Chairman, President and CEO; and Jernee Bramble, the firm’s director of diversity, equity, inclusion and professional development. It also has representatives from our five affinity groups and offices across the East Coast. The committee (i) oversees and evaluates the firm’s DEI initiatives, as well as considers and supports the implementation of new and timely initiatives; (ii) provides support to our affinity groups; (iii) designs and provides awareness, educational programming and events on DEI related issues for all attorneys and staff firmwide; and (iv) supports professional networking and business development opportunities.
Recruitment
To provide the best possible service to our clients, Miles & Stockbridge strives to hire, train and retain the most talented attorneys and staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences. To support this, we leverage a variety of resources to build large and diverse applicant pools, including participating in programs and initiatives sponsored by law schools and law student groups. In addition, the firm supports the participation of lawyers in voluntary bar associations and legal organizations including the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, Minority Corporate Counsel Association, Corporate Council Women of Color, the National Bar Association, The Jewish Federation Lawyers Division, the Maryland Hispanic Bar Association, various Women’s Bar Associations, the National LGBT Bar Association, and Q City – LGBTQ Real Estate Lawyers Group.
Miles & Stockbridge Affinity Groups
Diversity, equity and inclusion remain central to the fabric of our firm’s identity, and we are committed to integrating these principles of equal opportunity into every aspect of our work. One way we foster our community is through our firm-supported affinity groups, which provide a social and professional network as well as opportunities to give back through community outreach. Miles & Stockbridge supports five affinity groups: the Miles LGBTQIA+ Alliance, led by Principal William Riggins and Associate Lauren Fleming; the Miles Jewish Alliance (aka The Tribe @ Miles), led by Principals Stephanie Baron and Brian Moffet and Senior Counsel Michele Cohen; the Miles Minority Network led by Counsel Sasha Hodge-Wren and Associate Reginald Smallwood; the Miles Women’s Network, led by Principal Holly Drumheller Butler and Associate Tyler Duckett-Oliver; and the Parent Lawyers Group, led by Principal Celia Van Lenten and Associate Madeline Ziegler.
All of our affinity groups are open to everyone – regardless of background or identity. We are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where all are welcome to engage in meaningful conversations and initiatives that promote the firm’s commitment to equal opportunity in our community.
