This Black History Month, we are pleased to highlight Dominique Fitchett, a billing specialist in the firm’s Baltimore office. Dominique, who says former president Barack Obama’s “ability to remain composed and resilient in the face of political obstacles has taught me the importance of adaptability and leadership in navigating through challenges,” shares how the arts can help promote understanding and dialogue on issues related to race and identity.

“Artworks, whether in the form of memoirs, paintings, or performances embody the lived experiences of individuals from different backgrounds. For example, literary works such as James Baldwin's ‘Go Tell It on the Mountain’ or Maya Angelou's ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’ give readers a window into the realities faced by African Americans and allow them to engage with these stories on an emotional level. By sharing their stories, artists create a sense of connection that transcends race, fostering understanding and empathy among audiences who might otherwise be distant from such experiences.”
