In July 1995, after a 20-year period of severed ties between the U.S. and Vietnam, then-U.S. President Bill Clinton announced the normalization of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Vietnam. In the nearly 20 years since the resumption of relations with the U.S., Vietnam has emerged as one of the most attractive destinations for U.S. foreign investment, with more than half of U.S. Fortune 100 companies having established a presence in Vietnam. The more recent trend of interest is in the increase in reverse-investment by wealthy Vietnamese through the U.S. EB-5 investor visa program.
