Rachel McGuckian, a principal in the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice group, spoke on a panel titled “Two souls in my breast: the role of law firm partners as chief counsel in client companies” at the 2019 International Bar Association Annual Conference. The session was presented by the IBA’s Professional Ethics Committee and the Alternative and New Law Business Structures Committee.
Program Description:
There has been an increasing tendency in recent years for partners of law firms to be asked to be general counsel of clients, at least on a temporary basis, but also as more permanent posts, such as chief compliance officer or intellectual property (IP) counsel. In this session, we explore the ethical tensions that these two roles may create, and consider possible solutions.
