Joe Ward Honored by The Arc Baltimore as Director Emeritus
Congratulations to Miles & Stockbridge principal Joseph P. Ward, who was named a Director Emeritus by The Arc Baltimore in recognition of his 13 years of board service for the nonprofit organization, which provides life-changing support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Since 2008, Ward has taken on various roles on The Arc’s board of directors, including as president, vice president and secretary. His most recent position – as immediate past president – concluded in May.
“Joe has given generously of his time and talent, both as a board member and, over the last eight years, as an officer,” said Kathleen M. Durkin, executive director of The Arc Baltimore. “We are thankful that he is continuing his commitment now as Director Emeritus.”
The Director Emeritus honor, Durkin said, is the equivalent to the Hall of Fame for Arc Baltimore board service. Conferred upon members after they conclude active board service, the Director Emeritus recognition is not automatic, but rather is an individual and specific designation reserved for retiring members whose service has been substantial and longstanding.
Along with serving on The Arc’s Strategic Planning and Quality Enhancement committees, Ward also played a critical role in the transition of the organization’s longtime executive director and search for a new executive director.
In 2019, he was honored with The Arc’s Volunteer Service Award for demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to The Arc Baltimore’s mission.
