Michele Cohen, a principal in the firm’s Baltimore office, presented a breakout session at the 27th annual immersion18 by Trellance conference, a conference designed around helping credit unions compete and thrive. Her presentation was titled “Data Breaches: It's Not a Question of "If" But "When?"”
Program Description:
The use of cloud services and related technologies creates a balancing act (convenience and access to technology advances vs. a higher risk of loss of control over data and increased concerns regarding security and compliance efforts). This is a particular concern to financial services providers, where access to and use of consumer data is highly regulated and breaches highly visible to the public. This presentation will identify the potential for exposure when these services are utilized by the credit union, proactive due diligence and planning (including preparation of a Written Information Security Policy and related development of an Internal Response Plan and creation of the response team), and internal considerations to assist with risk management and breach preparedness. We will also discuss some of the first steps a credit union might take when the breach occurs and considerations for post-event activities.
