Miles & Stockbridge is honored to share that Rosalyn Tang, a principal and trial lawyer in the firm’s Rockville office, has been appointed by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan as a Judge for the Court of Special Appeals in the Seventh Appellate Judicial Circuit. Rosalyn is the first Asian American and the youngest woman ever appointed to the court. She also will become the second woman from the firm to serve on the bench. Last week Rachel McGuckian became the first when she was sworn in as an Associate Judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County.

“I am so proud of Rosalyn,” said Nancy Greene, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Miles & Stockbridge. “She is an outstanding lawyer and litigator, who has leveraged her past experience as an Assistant State’s Attorney and Associate County Attorney for her clients. This is a very special time in our firm’s history. To have had two judicial appointees at the same time is an incredible honor for the firm. The fact that Rachel and Rosalyn have worked so closely together in the same office makes it even more meaningful.”

Rosalyn has represented businesses and individuals in a wide array of commercial litigation matters, including the defense of title insurance companies, their agents and insureds in local and appellate courts. She also has represented private clients in family law and divorce matters.

She earned the firm’s Pro Bono Advocate Award in 2018 for her representation of a client in a post-conviction case. She is an active member of the Bar Association of Montgomery County, the Women’s Bar Association (Montgomery County Chapter) and APABA-MD.

Rosalyn is deeply committed to promoting greater diversity in the legal profession and to mentoring others. She has been instrumental in reviving the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Maryland (APABA) to provide resources and foster the success of Asian and Pacific American attorneys. She held various leadership roles with APABA and served as president for the 2017-2018 bar year. She was honored by the Montgomery County Bar Foundation with its Andrew L. Sonner Diversity Award. The Sonner Award recognizes an individual for outstanding contributions toward the goal of “encouraging racial and cultural diversity in the hiring, retention and promotion of attorneys and in the elevation of attorneys to leadership positions within the Montgomery County legal community,” according to the foundation.

She joins a distinguished list of Miles & Stockbridge lawyers who have served on the bench.
