Congratulations to Susan DuMont, who recently completed a yearlong fellowship with the Maryland Pro Bono Resource Center (PBRC).

Dumont, an associate and products liability lawyer in the Baltimore office of Miles & Stockbridge, graduated in June from PBRC’s Professional Skills Academy, which trains young lawyers on how to effectively perform pro bono work. As a PBRC Fellow for the 2020-2021 year, she joined other young lawyers in a 10-month cohort-based program of live clinics and trainings, which included in-court practice.

Described as “shaping the next generation of pro bono leaders,” the Professional Skills Academy aims to help Fellows enhance their lawyering skills, develop a habit of thoughtfully choosing and carrying out pro bono service, and meet mentors and colleagues who can help them grow.

As a participant in PBRC’s  Immigration, Rent Court, and Advanced Planning clinics, DuMont helped pro bono clients prepare to connect to immigration resources and appear in rent court to avoid eviction during the pandemic.

In 2019, DuMont was one of two recipients of the Miles & Stockbridge Pro Bono Advocate Award, which recognizes employees whose pro bono work exemplifies the firm’s strong tradition of public service. She was also named to that year’s Capital Pro Bono Honor Roll, an annual recognition by the District of Columbia Courts of attorneys who contribute 50 hours or more of pro bono work to those who cannot afford legal counsel.
