Biography

Susan DuMont assists clients in navigating the intricate legal landscape surrounding product liability and compliance.

Her practice includes representation of manufacturers before the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in connection with corrective action plans (recalls), civil penalties and reports, as well as investigations under the Consumer Product Safety Act. This includes many leading consumer product brands and some of the most complex and high-profile matters involving the CPSC in recent years.

She has litigation experience in environmental and education law, premises liability, mass torts and complex class-actions, and she uses her thorough investigative skills to develop proactive measures to minimize clients’ exposure to liability. She also advises clients on matters from initial risk assessment and compliance strategies to aggressive defense representation in court.

A co-chair of Miles & Stockbridge’s Pro Bono Committee, Susan also serves on the board of Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS), Open Works Inc., and on the alumni boards for both Maryland Carey Law and Lake Forest College.

She previously worked as the coordinator for fraternities and sororities at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and maintains an interest in fraternity-related injury litigation and risk management.
