Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce that Chambers USA, a go-to guide in the legal industry, has recognized Dwight W. Stone II with its top national ranking (Band 1) for Product Liability – Regulatory. Stone is a principal who leads the firm’s representation of clients before the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) in connection with corrective action plans (recalls), civil penalties and reports and investigations under the Consumer Product Safety Act. This includes many leading consumer product brands and some of the most complex and high-profile matters involving the CPSC in recent years.

The Chambers researchers reported that clients praised Stone's ability to combine legal and business judgment, with one client describing him as an "excellent attorney" who "understands business concerns when providing legal advice.”

"Companies today are operating in a product safety environment that is more complex and data-driven than ever before," said Stone. "Regulators have greater visibility into potential safety issues, and expectations for reporting, compliance and corrective action continue to evolve. Our focus is helping clients identify risks early, respond effectively when issues arise and protect both their customers and their brands."

Over the past year, Stone and the firm's CPSC & Regulatory Compliance team have advised Fortune 100 companies, emerging growth businesses and manufacturers across a broad range of industries on product safety compliance, recalls, investigations and related litigation matters. The team regularly helps clients coordinate regulatory strategy with litigation defense, reputation management and business objectives to minimize disruption and reduce risk. In addition, Stone serves as national coordinating counsel for a client’s defense of products liability lawsuits, bringing his deep understanding of the intersection and interaction of regulatory and product liability litigation issues to the work.

Stone also serves in leadership roles within DRI, the leading organization of defense attorneys and in-house counsel. He is a frequent speaker and author on product safety, recalls and regulatory enforcement issues.
