Pride 2022 Spotlight: Lauren Fleming
During #Pride2022, we are pleased to highlight Lauren Fleming, an associate who represents prime contractors, subcontractors, and landowners in complex civil, business, and commercial litigation, including matters related to commercial contracts, breach of fiduciary duty, unfair competition, business dissolutions, partnership disputes, trade secrets, and business torts. She also helps government contractors with construction-focused projects, including bid protests and claims preparation and defense.
During law school, Lauren represented human trafficking survivors as a student attorney in the school’s Human Trafficking Prevention Project and completed internships with the Maryland Office of the Attorney General Organized Crime Unit and with FreeState Justice (FSJ). Lauren remains involved with FSJ through our firm’s team, which performs name changes and legal gender identity changes for low-income LGBTQIA+ clients on a pro bono basis.
A member of the firm’s LGBTQIA+ Alliance, Lauren shared what comes to mind when she thinks of Pride and why she chose to share that she is part of the LGBTQIA+ community, “Several things come to my mind when I think of Pride — Martha P. Johnson and Harvey Milk, fear and setbacks, uprisings and growth. Pride reminds me of the history and the warriors that have come before me. It also reminds me of the fights that still need to be had. On a personal level, Pride reminds me that the prejudice I have faced and fear I have held does not define me and that I can be (and am) proud of who I am, who I want to be, and who I will be.”
