Miles & Stockbridge lawyers, Kraig Long and Sasha Hodge-Wren, delivered a special presentation titled “Managing Employees with Medical Conditions” for the DC Chamber of Commerce’s Employer Advocacy Program.

Program Description:

For many employers, managing employees with medical conditions can be a full time job. There are a host of federal, state and local laws that give employees rights and impose on employers when an employee is suffering from as serious medical condition or disability. Whether it is approving leave so that an employee can be off from work or providing an accommodation to help an employee perform their job duties, an unwary employer can be ensured in a complicated interplay of laws.

Topics to be covered include:

  • FMLA and other leave laws
  • Reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act
  • The interplay of FMLA, ADA and state workers’ compensation laws
  • Return to work issues following medical leaves of absence
  • Managing the work performance of employees with disabilities
