Labor, Employment, Benefits & Immigration

Because our emphasis is on employer representation, the Labor, Employment, Benefits & Immigration Practice Group of Miles & Stockbridge knows that meeting business objectives is our clients’ bottom-line concern.

We work closely with client human relations, benefits and legal staff to develop a solid understanding of each company’s operations, issues, and labor- and employment-related policies. We then craft customized solutions that enhance compliance with federal and state laws, minimize disputes with employees, avoid litigation when possible, and maximize strategic advantages should negotiation, dispute resolution or litigation become necessary.

We also proactively shape human resource policies and procedures in union and non-union settings at the start of a client engagement.  Our fundamental goal is to avoid problems before they start, preventing small issues from becoming major disputes.  When disputes do arise, we vigorously advocate on behalf of our clients before courts and administrative agencies to achieve the most advantageous resolution attainable in trial or settlement.

Our team understands how to handle the delicate and sensitive matters that investigations and complaints often bring, and we strive to avoid business disruptions. Whether the issues involve traditional labor law or general workplace and employment issues, problem avoidance or dispute resolution, proactive counseling or crisis management in such situations as strikes and plant closings, our labor and employment lawyers have the business acumen and experience to handle them—and can draw on the full resources of the firm for comprehensive solutions.
