Miles & Stockbridge Lawyer Rachel Theora McGuckian Appointed to Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland
Miles & Stockbridge is honored to share that Rachel Theora McGuckian, a long-serving principal in the law firm’s Rockville office, will be sworn in as an Associate Judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland, on Friday, January 14, 2022. An investiture ceremony will be held in the spring with COVID health and safety protocols taken into consideration. Rachel was appointed by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.
Rachel joined Miles & Stockbridge in 1996 as an associate and built her legal career at the firm as a trial and appellate litigator focused on commercial litigation, government contracts and family law. A leader inside and outside the firm, she became a principal in 2002, served on the firm’s board of directors from 2014-2020 and is managing principal of the Rockville office.
“We are so incredibly proud of Rachel, but, admittedly, are feeling mixed emotions about her departure from Miles & Stockbridge after 26 years here,” said Nancy Greene, chairman, president and chief executive officer of the firm. “It is truly an honor for our firm and all who have worked closely with Rachel to now have her serve the bench. With this appointment, she joins a distinguished list of Miles & Stockbridge lawyers who have served on the bench and becomes the first woman from the firm to become a Judge.”
She has held leadership positions in numerous bar associations and community organizations, including the International Bar Association, Maryland Court of Appeals, Maryland Defense Force, Maryland State Bar Association, Maryland State Board of Elections, Maryland State Ethics Commission, Montgomery County Bar Association, Montgomery County Bar Foundation, and the University of Baltimore Foundation, to name a few.
In this new role, Rachel will be carrying on her father’s legacy. The late Judge Paul McGuckian had served the Circuit Court of Montgomery County as an Associate Judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit.
