Miles & Stockbridge Lawyers Author USA Chapter in International Guide on White Collar Law

Holly Drumheller Butler, Warren Allen and Ray McKenzie, principals in Miles & Stockbridge’s Government Investigations & White Collar practice, have written a chapter about U.S. law in “ICLG – Business Crime Laws and Regulations 2027.” Global Legal Group (GLG) publishes various International Comparative Legal Guides, which provide cross-border legal information for law firms and in-house legal departments of organizations around the world.

The guide has been distributed to 14,000 in-house counsel and nearly 10,000 ICLG subscribers. The chapter Drumheller Butler, Allen and McKenzie authored explains the organization of the U.S. court system, corporate criminal liability, burden of proof and voluntary disclosure obligations, among other topics.

“The guide’s preface notes we are a ‘varied, diverse world when it comes to approaches to the fuller range of business crimes,’” said Drumheller Butler, who co-leads the practice. “Writing on the topic is a meaningful way to share our expertise with an international audience. Miles & Stockbridge has the experience and resources to assist multinational companies, their boards, and their executives with U.S. business crime matters.”

The ICLG series of reference publications are co-created by GLG and a multinational panel of expert legal contributors who together gather, research and publish the primary cross-border legal guidance necessary for law firms, companies, governments and high-net-worth individuals to operate globally.

About Miles & Stockbridge’s Government Investigations & White Collar Practice

We help companies, boards, executives, healthcare providers, professionals and public officials respond quickly and strategically to federal, state or local authorities — and, when necessary, defend them in court.

We have extensive experience representing clients in matters involving the Department of Justice (DOJ); Offices of Inspectors General (OIG) across federal agencies; the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); Department of Homeland Security (DHS); Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA); Department of Defense (DoD); Department of Education (ED); state attorneys general; various regulatory agencies; and congressional committees. We handle every phase of scrutiny: grand jury and civil subpoenas, civil investigative demands, agency inquiry letters, FBI or OIG interview requests and other regulatory demands.

Our lawyers draw on a wealth of experience working both inside and outside investigative agencies. We understand not only the needs of our clients, but also how investigators think and act. Our insight allows us to craft effective defense strategies, guide voluntary and mandatory disclosures and recommend pragmatic improvements to compliance systems — always with discretion to protect clients’ privacy.
