Women's History Month Spotlight: Rachel McGuckian
This January Miles & Stockbridge principal Rachel Theora McGuckian became a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in North America. Then, two days later, she was sworn in as an Associate Judge for the Sixth Judicial Circuit of the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, Maryland.
Rachel joined Miles & Stockbridge in 1996 as an associate and built her legal career at the firm as a trial and appellate litigator focused on commercial litigation, government contracts and family law. A leader inside and outside the firm, she became a principal in 2002, served on the firm’s board of directors from 2014-2020 and is managing principal of the Rockville office.
“We are so incredibly proud of Rachel, but, admittedly, are feeling mixed emotions about her departure from Miles & Stockbridge after 26 years here,” said Nancy Greene, chairman, president and chief executive officer of the firm. “It is truly an honor for our firm and all who have worked closely with Rachel to now have her serve the bench. With this appointment, she joins a distinguished list of Miles & Stockbridge lawyers who have served on the bench and becomes the first woman from the firm to become a Judge.”
In 2022, another Miles & Stockbridge principal, The Honorable Rosalyn Tang, was sworn in to serve on the Court of Special Appeals, Seventh Appellate Judicial Circuit. She becomes the first Asian American and the youngest woman ever appointed to the Court of Special Appeals.
