Biography
Ray McKenzie assists companies with government and internal investigations related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, False Claims Act and sensitive personnel matters, among other issues.
He has represented clients in investigations by the Department of Justice (Civil, Criminal, and Tax Divisions), Offices of Inspector General, the D.C. Office of Attorney General and various U.S. Attorney’s Offices.
A former federal prosecutor in Maryland, Ray successfully tried cases involving white-collar crimes, including bank fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, identity theft and bribery, as well as narcotics offenses and violent crimes. He led numerous grand jury investigations involving extensive document collection and witness testimony.
Prior to joining Miles & Stockbridge, Ray co-founded a boutique white-collar litigation firm where he represented companies and individuals in government enforcement actions, internal investigations, compliance reviews, criminal proceedings and civil litigation. He has also advised clients on issues related to the Securities Exchange Act, the Anti-Kickback Act and employment matters. Before becoming a prosecutor, Ray worked at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP for more than five years.
Ray spent seven years as a public-school teacher prior to attending law school. After graduating from the University of Virginia School of Law, he clerked for Judge James R. Spencer on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
As an undergraduate and graduate student, Ray was a scholarship member of the University of Virginia’s conference-champion football team.
