Kelly A. Powers
Biography
Kelly Powers is the firm's general counsel and a principal in the firm’s Family Law & Private Clients Group, which is top ranked in D.C. by the 2025 Chambers High Net Worth Guide.
Kelly represents clients in high-net-worth divorce work, high-conflict custody disputes, international child abduction cases, and federal and state private client appellate work. Kelly’s divorce practice focuses on cases involving the valuation and division of complex business and other family assets. Kelly has experience handling family law emergencies and injunctions, and she is a qualified solicitor in England and Wales.
Kelly represents clients in divorce cases in the District of Columbia and all across Maryland, including on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Kelly’s clients include entrepreneurs, corporate executives, private equity and other investment professionals, medical and legal professionals, professional athletes and entertainment professionals, social media influencers and their spouses or partners.
Kelly’s appellate practice includes representing parties and amici in federal and state appellate courts nationwide, including in the Supreme Court of the United States.
In addition to her litigation practice, Kelly is a trained mediator and has completed Maryland’s 40-hour mediation training. She is recognized as a leading lawyer by the 2024 Chambers High Net Worth Guide in the area of Family/Matrimonial Law in the District of Columbia for high-net-worth individuals, families and business owners.
A member of the firm's board of directors, Kelly is committed to pro bono and philanthropic efforts. She served as chair of the firm’s Pro Bono Advocate Program, serves on the Baltimore City Circuit Court’s Local Pro Bono Committee and has been recognized nationally by the American Bar Association for her pro bono practice. Kelly also serves on the board of directors of the Towson University Foundation and is a past president of the board of directors of the Women’s Law Center of Maryland.
Before joining Miles & Stockbridge, Kelly served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Audrey J.S. Carrión, formerly the Judge-in-Charge of the Family Division, and now the Administrative Judge, of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
