Miles & Stockbridge principals Stephen J. Cullen and Kelly A. Powers have been elected to executive positions within the International Bar Association (IBA), which has 80,000 members across more than 170 countries. Cullen leads and Powers is part of Miles & Stockbridge’s Family Law & Private Clients Practice Group, where they regularly advocate for clients in international divorce, custody and child support and abduction cases, among other matters. Powers also co-leads the firm’s Litigation Practice Group.

Cullen will serve as co-chair of the IBA’s International Family Law Committee, where he will work on international family law issues and projects. One of the committee’s immediate goals is helping in the recovery of the Ukrainian children that Russia has abducted and repatriating them to Ukraine.

“It’s an honor to help shape the future of international family law in the most important bar organization in the world,” Cullen said.

Powers will serve as diversity and inclusion officer for the Professional Ethics Committee, helping the IBA advance its goal of fostering diversity and inclusion across the IBA and the legal profession in support of the IBA’s commitment to promote access to justice worldwide.

“The role is aligned with my work throughout my career to promote access to justice across the profession,” Powers said.

Cullen and Powers have been IBA members since 2009 and have used their membership to build connections with top international family lawyers from across the world. They will serve in their committee roles through the end of 2024.

Cullen is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Family Lawyers. He represents parents and children in state, interstate, UCCJEA and international family and child law cases and is an expert on the 1980 Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction.

Powers represents clients in high-net-worth divorce work, high-conflict custody disputes, international child abduction cases and federal and state private client appellate work.
