Gov. Wes Moore signed the Maryland Worker Freedom Act (SB 417) into law earlier this spring, making Maryland the 14th state to enact what is commonly referred to as a “captive audience” meeting ban. 2026 Isn’t a ‘26 Paycheck’ Year. Here’s What Employers Should Know

Many employers issue paychecks biweekly, which results in 26 pay periods per year. This year, 2026 employers will encounter an adjustment where a biweekly pay schedule may result in 27 pay periods.   Employers that started the year with a paycheck on Friday, Jan. 2, may intend to pay the final paycheck of 2026 on Thursday, Dec. 31, given that Friday, Jan. 1, 2027, is a holiday.
