Veteran White Collar Lawyers Warren T. Allen II and Ray D. McKenzie Join Miles & Stockbridge’s Washington Office

National white collar practice adds former Assistant US Attorney and Big Law alumni
Miles & Stockbridge is pleased to announce that veteran white collar lawyers Warren T. Allen II and Ray D. McKenzie have joined the firm’s Washington, D.C. office as principals in the White Collar, Fraud and Government Investigations Practice Group.
Prior to joining Miles & Stockbridge, Allen and McKenzie co-founded a Washington-based boutique white collar litigation firm where they represented companies and individuals in high-profile internal investigations, government enforcement proceedings, civil litigation and related compliance and corporate-governance matters.
Through their years of practice, they have handled matters related to allegations of corruption, false reporting, market manipulation, insider trading, securities and commodities fraud, embezzlement, money laundering, misuse of public funds, kickbacks and other statutory and regulatory violations. At Miles & Stockbridge, they will focus on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the False Claims Act, internal investigations, corporate compliance and sensitive personnel matters, among other issues.
“We are thrilled Warren and Ray have joined Miles & Stockbridge,” said Nancy Greene, the firm’s chairman. “They have developed a robust white collar practice, deep and important client relationships and a reputation as leaders and mentors in the DEI community as Fellows in the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD). They are joining us at an exciting time for the firm as we continue our strategic market growth, add innovative legal operations and wrap up a strong financial performance in 2023.”
Allen and McKenzie met while working together in the Washington office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. McKenzie also spent four years as an Assistant United States Attorney for Maryland, where he successfully tried cases involving white collar crimes, including bank and wire fraud, as well as narcotics offenses and violent crimes.
“Ray and Warren add to our deep experience in conducting internal investigations, reviewing and advising on compliance programs, supporting due diligence on complex corporate transactions and defending corporations and individuals in civil fraud and white collar matters,” said Raymond F. Monroe, co-leader of Miles & Stockbridge’s Government Contracts and White Collar Practice Group along with C. Peter Dungan. “Our team supports clients in an array of sectors, including government contracting, health care and financial services — sectors in which Ray and Warren have focused their work. Ray and Warren have much to offer as highly regarded lawyers, business owners and members of the D.C. community. I look forward to them continuing to be mentors and role models to others as we continue to grow our practice, our D.C. office and our firm.”
Allen and McKenzie join a talented and accomplished white collar team with decades of defense and government experience. The team is co-led by Holly Drumheller Butler, who represents and counsels companies in high-stakes government and internal investigations, and Thomas E. Zeno, a former Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia for more than 29 years where he served, among other positions, as an Executive Assistant United States Attorney overseeing operations of more than 200 federal prosecutors.
“Miles & Stockbridge has a mid-sized firm culture with the sophisticated and innovative capabilities and support you might expect in a larger firm,” said Allen. “This is a great platform for us to continue to grow our practice, bring new services and offerings to our clients that we could not provide at our boutique firm and benefit personally and professionally from working with some of the best lawyers in the country. Bottom line, it allows us to be part of something bigger and to spend more time focusing on client service without the administrative burdens of running our own firm.”
“The firm values client relationships, communities and its people,” added McKenzie. “The opportunity to help continue to build a strong, nationally recognized white collar practice, collaborate and mentor lawyers across the firm, and expand relationships with clients across practices is something we look forward to doing.”
