The LGBTQIA+ Alliance was created to strengthen our inclusive culture with respect to sexual orientation and gender identity. All are welcome to join, regardless of how they identify.

The group is led by Bill Riggins, a principal in our Real Estate & Transactional Finance Practice Group and Lauren Fleming, an associate in our Government Contracts Practice Group.

All of our affinity groups are open to everyone – regardless of background or identity. We are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where all are welcome to engage in meaningful conversations and initiatives that promote the firm’s commitment to equal opportunity in our community.

Recent Event Highlights

Orioles Pride Night 2025: Members of the LGBTQIA+ Alliance and firm colleagues came together June 25, 2025 at Oriole Park for the annual “Night Out" to cheer on the Orioles as they faced the Texas Rangers. We were proud to take part in the team's official Pride Night, joining thousands of fans in celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community.

Pro Bono Award: ​Miles & Stockbridge received the “Law Firm of the Year” award from FreeState Justice in December 2024 during the organization’s annual Jazz Brunch in Baltimore. Through our partnership with FreeState, the firm has provided critical legal support to LGBTQ+ Marylanders, addressing issues such as discrimination, legal name changes, access to health care and family law matters.

Name Change Clinic with FreeState Justice: ​The firm's lawyers, summer associates and non-attorney colleagues paired together with FreeState Justice​ for a name change and gender designation change training and clinic in the Baltimore office June 13, 2024. FreeState is a Maryland nonprofit that provides free legal services, legislative advocacy and education and outreach programs to improve the lives of Maryland's LGBTQ+ community. Our team was grateful to have the opportunity to assist members of the LGBTQ+ community in taking these important steps in affirming their identity. 

2024 Pride Month LGBTQIA+ Alliance Pride Celebration: The firm's LGBTQIA+ Alliance brought colleagues together for a Pride Celebration reception in the Baltimore office to celebrate and show our support of the LGBTQIA+ community. The Alliance was intentional about sourcing food and beverage from LGBTQIA+-owned-and-operated businesses.
