Biography

Melissa Johnson is managing principal of Miles & Stockbridge's Washington, D.C. office.

She represents mortgage lenders in commercial real estate financing transactions under various programs, including loans to be purchased by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.

A member of the firm's Board of Directors, Melissa advises lenders in market-rate and affordable housing financing, manufactured housing, acquisition financing, student housing and existing project refinancing utilizing multiple types of financing structures.

She has experience with multi-layered soft and hard subordinate debt transactions, Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) Contracts, Payments In Lieu of Taxes (PILOTs) and other tax exemptions that require creation of ground leases with affordability restrictions and/or issuance of municipal taxable bonds, preservation deals, tax increment financing and historic tax credit master lease transactions.

Melissa also represents clients in connection with structuring and drafting their loan commitments and counsels on various servicing and asset management related issues.
