National Multifamily Housing Finance Lawyer Marshall Tucker, Jr. Joins Miles & Stockbridge’s Richmond Office

Miles & Stockbridge, an Am Law 200 firm with more than 200 lawyers and offices in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and New York, has added veteran multifamily housing finance attorney Marshall Tucker, Jr. to its Richmond office, strengthening the firm's nationally recognized agency lending practice and expanding resources for mortgage banking and real estate finance clients across the country. His arrival expands the firm’s capabilities in government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) and federal agency matters and underscores its continued commitment to meeting client demand in the growing Virginia market.
Mr. Tucker advises mortgage banking clients throughout the lifecycle of agency lending transactions, including loan origination, servicing, sales and secondary market executions involving Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and other institutional investors. He brings decades of experience advising lenders, developers and investors on successfully navigating financing multifamily housing projects across the country.
“In some respects, the GSE world is relatively small in terms of the number of highly regarded attorneys. Marshall is one of them,” said Sameer Upadhya, co-leader of Miles & Stockbridge’s GSE team. “He is an accomplished lawyer whom many of our clients already know and respect. We look forward to Marshall serving as another great resource for our clients.”
Demand for multifamily housing finance and agency lending counsel continues to grow as lenders, developers and investors navigate evolving capital markets conditions and increasing transaction complexity. Mr. Tucker is widely recognized for his work in multifamily agency lending and regularly advises lenders participating in Fannie Mae's Delegated Underwriting and Servicing (DUS) program and Freddie Mac's Capital Markets Execution (CME) platform. He also counsels clients on a broad range of agency loan products and secondary market transactions.
“Miles & Stockbridge’s reputation for client service and the depth of its GSE and HUD practice will create meaningful opportunities for my clients,” he said. “I look forward to continuing to serve them while expanding the resources and capabilities available to support their business objectives.”
Mr. Tucker joins the firm from Troutman Pepper Locke and reunites with finance lawyers and former colleagues Chris Vinyard and Matt Murcko. His arrival continues the firm's strategic expansion in Richmond, where six lawyers have joined the office during the past year, Miles & Stockbridge continues to invest in one of the Mid-Atlantic's fastest-growing legal and business markets.
“Marshall joining the Richmond office is another huge win for our disciplined and strategic growth in this region to meet our clients’ needs,” said John Badman IV, managing principal of the Richmond office. “He has a stellar reputation in the Richmond community, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the team.”
Added Andrew E. Skopp, co-leader of the firm’s Real Estate & Transactional Finance Practice Group: “With Marshall in Richmond, our lender and real estate clients now have local access to a nationally recognized agency lending specialist who can guide them through complex GSE transactions without leaving the market where so many of those deals originate. Adding Marshall reflects our commitment to building a full-service Richmond office where clients can access everything from commercial lending and construction finance to GSE multifamily origination without coordinating across multiple firms.”
