Biography
Jeffrey Poretz, managing principal of the firm's Tysons office and a member of the Board of Directors, is a seasoned, first-chair trial attorney who represents and counsels corporations and individuals in disputes involving complex commercial contracts, government contracts, real estate, construction and business matters.
Due to his proximity to the nation’s capital, many of Jeff’s cases involve complicated government contracting disputes between teaming partners, joint ventures, contractors and subcontractors.
Jeff also handles more traditional product liability matters, including aviation and heavy equipment litigation that are critical concerns for manufacturers, distributors and other affected parties.
Throughout his more than 25 years practicing law, Jeff additionally has represented defendants in asbestos, personal injury and wrongful death cases. Whatever the matter, Jeff takes a practical and pragmatic approach to every case, working collaboratively with clients to develop a strategy tailored to their needs.
Jeff practices primarily in state and federal courts throughout Virginia, including the “Rocket Docket” in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He also served as local counsel in numerous courts across Virginia and in Washington, D.C.
Jeff has presented on recent developments in Virginia products liability law before the Products Liability and Toxic Tort Section of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys. He has served as a faculty member and lecturer at a continuing legal education forum sponsored by the D.C. Bar Association on the topic of retaining and handling experts. He has also spoken to numerous health care providers regarding general risk management issues.
Prior to joining Miles & Stockbridge, Jeff served as a judicial law clerk to the Alexandria Circuit Court judges in Alexandria, Virginia. He joined Miles & Stockbridge in 1997 following his two-year clerkship.
