Nancy Greene to Serve as Chairman Emeritus; Board Expanded to Support Firm Growth Strategy

Miles & Stockbridge, an Am Law 200 law firm with more than 200 lawyers across Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia and New York, announced today that the firm’s principals have elected Scott R. Wilson as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. He succeeds Nancy W. Greene, who will serve as Chairman Emeritus during a transitional year and continue her service on the firm’s Board of Directors as a Director.

Wilson’s election follows a succession planning process led by the firm’s Board of Directors, with meaningful input from lawyers across practice groups and offices throughout the preceding year. The Board sought to ensure continuity of leadership, alignment around the firm’s strategic priorities and a smooth transition that reflects the firm’s collaborative culture and long-term vision.

“This firm has always taken a long view,” Greene said. “Our succession planning process was intentional, inclusive and focused on ensuring continuity for our clients and our people. I am proud to continue serving on the Board and to support Scott as he leads the firm into its next chapter.”

A member of the firm’s Board since 2023, Wilson has played an integral role in governance, strategic planning and growth initiatives. His election reflects both the Board’s confidence in his leadership and the strong support he received across the partnership.

A principal in the firm’s Corporate & Securities practice, Wilson previously led the corporate team for nearly a decade, expanding its market presence and strengthening its reputation as a trusted advisor to the middle-market. He counsels public and private companies on corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, securities transactions, private fund formation and complex commercial agreements, with particular depth in Maryland corporate and REIT law.

“I am honored and excited to serve as Chairman, President and CEO of Miles & Stockbridge for an immensely talented group of lawyers and staff,” said Wilson. “This firm’s strength lies in its people. We find ourselves at a pivotal moment for the legal profession that will produce winners and losers – we’re going to be winners. I am ready to get to work in this new role.”

Greene’s tenure as Chairman, CEO and President was marked by year-over-year financial growth, geographic expansion into New York and Richmond and enhanced market positioning. Most notably, she guided the firm through its 2024 strategic combination with Krooth & Altman, strengthening the firm’s presence in Washington, D.C., and expanding its capabilities in key practice areas. She will continue to focus on strategic growth initiatives and the ongoing integration of Krooth & Altman, ensuring seamless operational alignment and client service continuity.

Beyond financial performance, Greene championed leadership development and initiatives that strengthened the firm’s culture. This included helping to support and advance many of the firm’s women lawyers into leadership roles, including the appointment of the firm’s first Chief Growth Officer, Suzzanne Decker. Throughout her tenure, she continued to maintain a sophisticated national real estate finance practice.

“Nancy’s leadership positioned us for this next chapter,” Wilson added. “Her stewardship over the past decade strengthened our foundation and broadened our reach. I am grateful for her partnership and look forward to working closely with her in the coming years.”

“It has been the honor of my career to lead Miles & Stockbridge. Having worked alongside Scott for more than 18 years, I have seen firsthand his judgment, integrity and unwavering commitment to our clients and our people,” says Greene. “He is a thoughtful and strategic leader who understands both our history and our aspirations. I cannot imagine a stronger steward to guide the firm into its next phase of growth and opportunity. I look forward to continuing to support him and the firm in my role on the Board.”

Additional Board Updates

As part of the firm’s continued investment in governance and leadership development, the principals reelected Matt Klaiber, a principal in the firm’s Corporate & Securities practice, and elected Sameer Upadhya and Melissa Johnson — both principals in the firm’s Washington, D.C. Real Estate Finance group – to the Board. These appointments reflect Miles & Stockbridge’s commitment to institutional maturity, thoughtful leadership succession and governance structures designed to support long-term strategic growth.
