Senior leaders from across the health care industry gathered at The Center Club in Baltimore for last week’s Hot Topics in Health Care program and reception, presented by the Miles & Stockbridge Health Care Group. The event brought together executives from hospitals, physician networks, insurers, digital health companies, regulatory bodies, financial institutions and advisory firms, and featured two fireside chats on key issues reshaping Maryland’s health care landscape, with networking receptions before and after.

Molly Ferraioli moderated the first fireside chat, which took a deep dive into Maryland’s transition to the AHEAD Model, which will usher in a new reimbursement model for Maryland’s acute care hospitals under an agreement with the federal government. Jonathan Kromm, executive director of the Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission, and Melony Griffith, president and CEO of the Maryland Hospital Association, engaged in a timely discussion on what hospitals, as well as consumers and other stakeholders across Maryland’s health care ecosystem, may expect as the AHEAD Model is implemented.

The second fireside chat, moderated by Celia Van Lenten, focused on how advances in research, digital health and AI are reshaping the way in which health care is delivered, how outcomes are measured and how risk is managed. Bradley Schlaggar, president and CEO of Kennedy Krieger Institute, and Ben Texter, co-founder and co-CEO of Digital Health Strategies, shared a candid and lively conversation on the opportunities afforded by these tools as well as the complex legal, ethical and operational questions that need to be considered.
